Coaches meeting on Tuesday, August 3rd, 7:00 p.m. at Community Chapel

Our pre-playoff / post-regular-season coaches meeting will be on this Tuesday, August 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (last door as you enter the parking lot, take a right into Fellowship Hall) of Community Chapel. Community Chapel is just off exit 7 of Route 3 in Nashua at 5 St. Laurent Street. Here's a link to a map: Community Chapel on MapQuest.

All teams should have a representative at the meeting.

Resuming Suspended Games Description

Since there are often questions about resuming suspended games, I have included a description of the rules concerning this under Policies and Procedures.

Suspended and rained out games from 7/16 rescheduled

The Nashua and Derry schedules have had the suspended and rained out games from 7/16 rescheduled for the week of July 30th. We are fortunate to still be able to schedule the completion of a full 12 game season for all teams although the scheduling in some cases may be inconvenient. I regret that but there is little option. Play ball!

Riverside Christan at Main Street UMC game to be continued on 7/29 (7/9/10)

The Nashua schedule has been updated to include the continuation of the Riverside Christian @ Main Street UMC game started on 6/18 which had to be stopped when the lights at Labine failed to come on.

Minor update to Nashua Schedule (6/8/10)

The Nashua schedule has been updated to remove the Grace Fellowship @ Crossway (5/28) tie game completion on 7/30. The completion of this game was already scheduled for 7/23.

Updated Nashua and Derry Schedules (6/6/10)

Nashua schedules have been updated reflecting the loss of Bedford Community Church from the League. Calvary Christian Center East is now team #6 in the schedule instead of team #12. All teams will have a full slate of 12 games not including any games originally scheduled against Bedford Community Church. Here is the new Nashua schedule.

Note that the completions for the 2 tied are scheduled. Grace Fellowship and First Church will complete their tie game on 7/9 at around 8:15 p.m. at Labine. Grace Fellowship will first play a game at Nashua North and then need to travel to Labine to complete this game. This matchup will only consist of completing the tie game. The Grace Fellowship / Crossway tie game will be completed on 7/23 @8:00 p.m. at Labine followed by a second full game. Since the lights are on until 10:00 p.m., we are hopeful that this will be enough time to get in the tie game completion and another full game (barring another tie :-) ).

There are changes to the Derry schedule. as well. The suspended Calvary Bible Blue / Hooksett game will be resumed on Saturday, 7/24, @8:00 p.m. Also 2 games originally scheduled for Satuday, 5/30, will be made up later in the season. See the schedule for details.

Bedford Community Church dropped from League (6/1/10)

Bedford Community Church has not been able to consistently field a team forfeiting 3 of the first 5 games of the season. In accordance with League policy, Bedford Community Church has been dropped from the League and the Nashua schedule will be redone to attempt to provide a full slate of 12 games for the remaining teams. Results of games already played against Bedford Community Church will be expunged.

Scores by Date not working (5/9/10)

There is a bug in the program preventing scores by date from working. Until this is fixed, the Scores By Date tab will not contain any scores and the scores from the past week will not be displayed on the main page.

Using Optic 0.44 Core Balls, not 0.40 Core Balls (4/26/10)

A year ago we were told that the ASA standard for softballs changed to a .40 core, 375 compression softball. When we got our shipment of softballs, they were actually .44 core softballs. After examining the rulebook, the .44 core balls are legal for slow pitch softball and we will be using these balls, not the .40 balls that we had previously believed to be the ASA standard.

Coaches Vote For 9 Inning Games Starting With 1-1 Pitch Count (2/27/10)

Coaches voted 17-3 at the 2/25/10 Coaches Meeting to accept a proposal for new Bylaw from Rich Fixler (Calvary Bible Blue) to change the format of the games from a traditional 7-inning with each batter starting with a 0 ball, 0 strike count to a 9-inning game with each batter starting with a 1 ball, 1 strike count. Bylaw 3i is new which states, "A regulation softball game shall consist of nine innings instead of the seven innings discussed in ASA Rule 5 Section 1.". Bylaw 3j states, "The pitch count shall start at 1 ball and 1 strike." and replaces the previous Bylaw 3j which gave coaches the option of using a 1 ball, 1 strike count instead of the default 0 ball, 0 strike count.

Despite the extra innings, experience from other teams with this format shows that this will actually shorten games. This change will also provide more at bats, fielding and action in general in the game.

ASA 2010 Rule Change Limits Pitch Height to 10 Feet (2/27/10)

As of the 2010 season, ASA rules now limit the pitch to be 10 feet from the ground at its heighest point which is down 2 feet from the previous limit of 12 feet.

Bethany Covenant joins Manchester Assembly of God Softball Team (4/3/10)

Manchester Assembly of God has invited men from the Bethany Covenant Church family to join with them on their softball team. Neither team had enough men by themselves to fully support a team but together they will fill the roster. The team will retain the Manchester Assembly of God name and be led by coach Ken Grenier. This is Manchester AOG's (a.k.a. First AOG) second year in the League while Bethany Covenant fielded a team for over a dozen years until dropping out after the 2007 season. We welcome the men from Bethany Covenant back into the League!

2 Londonderry Churches Change Names (3/29/10)

Two churches in Londonderry have opted for a name change. Londonderry Presbyterian is now Orchard Christian Fellowship. Londonderry Church of the Nazarene has recently changed their name to Journey Church and is meeting (temporarily) in Hudson while their permanent building in Derry is being built.

3 New Teams Added to League (2/27/10)

Three new teams were added to the League at the Coaches Meeting on 2/25/10. This brings the the League to a total of 26 teams from 24 churches. The teams are:
  • Calvary Bible (2nd team) (Derry Division) - After a one-year hiatus, Calvary Bible returns to two teams
  • Riverside Assembly of God (Methuen, MA) (Derry Division) - Steve Picardi last coached a Riverside AOG team in the GNMESL in 1999. They are both back in 2010.
  • Calvary Christian Center East (Merrimack) (Nashua Division) - Hector Rias will coach a new team from the 3-year old Calvary Christian Center East chuch located on Daniel Webster Highway near exit 11.
About us

The Greater Nashua Men's Evangelical Softball League, also called the Church League, is a group of 24 churches supporting 25 teams that have banded together to enjoy competitive adult slow-pitch softball, fellowship with men from our own and other churches, and to be a witness to the life-saving power of Jesus Christ in our lives. Our League plays in Nashua (11 teams) and Derry (14 teams) primarily on Friday nights from late April through mid-August. For more information, browse the web site or contact the President.
